East Indies

East Indies was a term used in the 1600's[1]—about what is now known as South East Asia[2] by the usage of the term indies relating to islands it is closer to Maritime Southeast Asia in sense than the broader term. Historically the term is usually found in relation to the colonial activity in the region, such as the number of East India Companies that were created in the colonial era.
