Panda is a character in the Tekken fighting game series. She is, as her name implies, a Giant Panda. She is the loyal pet, best friend, and bodyguard of Ling Xiaoyu. She has the same fighting style as Kuma, Heihachi Mishima's pet grizzly bear. Kuma seems to have a crush on Panda. Like Xiaoyu, Panda made her debut in Tekken 3, and has been in every other Tekken since.
HistoryTekken 3Panda is cared for at Ling Xiaoyu's high school. To participate in the tournament, Xiaoyu moved to the Mishima Polytechnical School in Japan. Heihachi taught Panda "Advanced Bear Fighting" so that she could act as a bodyguard for Xiaoyu during the tournament. Although Kuma is fond of Panda, Panda dislikes him and keeps her distance. When you select Panda for use in the game, her preview image shows up on screen as Kuma. She did not receive her own preview icon or image until Tekken Tag Tournament. The same also applies to Tiger Jackson. Tekken 4Panda is given her own story. In her prologue, it explains Panda as protecting Xiaoyu as her bodyguard and tending to her concerns. In her Tekken 4 ending, she hands over control of the Mishima Zaibatsu to Xiaoyu, and then she calls Xiaoyu over to the tournament ring. She then explains to Xiaoyu that she has to search for Jin Kazama on her own. Tekken 5After the conclusion of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Ling Xiaoyu had been feeling depressed. Panda thought long and hard about how she could make Xiaoyu happy again. Panda decided that the best approach would be to find Jin Kazama. Panda searched for Jin, but she was unable to find him. One day, Xiaoyu came to her excited. "Panda, I've decided to enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, and I need your help once again". Panda didn't quite understand Xiaoyu's reason for entering the tournament, but she decided to help if it would make her happy. Tekken 6Panda took part in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 in the form of Xiaoyu's bodyguard. Panda was relieved to learn Heihachi Mishima still lived, but only briefly--her moment of relief past by quickly without notice with the sudden announcement of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6. Bound by duty, Panda finds herself once again propelled into harm's way. Panda TriviaIn Tekken Tag Tournament, Panda can be seen playing with other students in one stage. EndingsTekken 3As Panda and Xiaoyu are leaving the Mishima Polytechnical High School through the front gate in a conversasion, Kuma appears on his knees to offer some Bamboo to Panda. Panda and Xiaoyu however, ignore Kuma and continue walking. A man later comes to close the gate while Kuma is still on his knees holding the bamboo. Afterwards all you see is Kuma's back while Xiaoyu and Panda are walking away laughing. Tekken Tag TournamentKuma offers Panda some flowers at the school that Ling Xiaoyu, Jin Kazama and Miharu Hirano go to. Panda slaps Kuma and walks off with Ling Xiaoyu. Ling Xiaoyu waves goodbye. Tekken 4Panda invites Ling Xiaoyu out. Panda shows Xiaoyu a photo of them with Jin and suggest she go find Jin by herself. Xiaoyu exclaims "By myself?" and attempts to talk Panda into going with her but then agrees and hugs Panda. Tekken 5Keeping her promise to Kuma, Panda becomes the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu. She reads a document, and she places her paw impression on it after reading it. Lee Chaolan, now a secretary appears to Panda, telling her that Kuma wants to see her. Panda lets Kuma in. Kuma then enters the room, walking up to the desk, with flowers. Panda pushes a red button, and Kuma falls through a trap door in the floor that was in front of Panda's desk. Lee gives Panda a "thumbs up" gesture with one of his hands. Xiaoyu enters the room, asks Panda how she is, and wonders what the button does. But instead of pressing the red button, pushes a blue button instead. Panda falls through a trap door, her chair trailing behind her. Xiaoyu, in a dim-witted manner, asks to herself, "Panda...?" Lee gives Xiaoyu the same gesture that he gave to Panda. See also
